Zoo Atlanta launches Spring Top Trail

Spring Break Staycation ideas Atlanta

By Lynne Westbrook, Blue Ridge MacKid March 30, 2017

We all love Zoo Atlanta and enjoy watching the tree dwelling animals fly with ease as they jump from branch to branch.  If you have ever wondered what that would feel like...now is your chance.  Treetop Trail is a brand new experience that has just opened to the public in March.

You can test your skills on the all-new aerial playground and have the opportunity to zig, zag, climb, walk, and balance at your own pace as you navigate a series of rope ladders, bridges, nets and tightrope-style foot lines on this newest experience.  The Treetop Trail is open to all Zoo visitors, but participants must be 48 inches tall to participate without an adult.  My daughters loved the experience (located in KIDZone) as they walked above the playground and experienced life in the trees.  You are safely secured in a harness and are able to walk the course at your own pace and choose which direction you prefer.  While I loved the steps, my daughter's really liked the challenge of the ropes!  While we have experienced other rope courses and zip lines - this one is very unique as you hear the animals in the backdrop and enjoy the life of a tree dweller!  Lots of fun!

MUST-DOS AT THE ZOO THIS SPRING BREAK

Ya Lun and Xi Lun, the only giant panda twins in the U.S., continue to run, climb, toddle, and tumble through a series of memorable milestones. See the twins and their mother, Lun Lun, in their dayroom habitat in The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation Giant Panda Conservation Center during Spring Break week.

Be on the lookout for the newest member of the Zoo’s largest primate troop, 6-month-old baby Mijadala the western lowland gorilla, a granddaughter of Zoo Atlanta’s most famous gorilla, the legendary late Willie B. The Zoo’s Ford African Rain Forest is home to North America’s largest population of this critically endangered species.

Stand eye-to-eye with Earth’s tallest living land mammals with giraffe feeding, which reopened for the season on March 17, 2017. Giraffe feeding is weather-permitting and is not open during rain or days following heavy rains.

Try a behind-the-scenes Wild Encounter with an African elephant, Aldabra tortoise, giant panda, lemur or warthog during a special Spring Break schedule. Visit zooatlanta.org for reservations and availability.
