Spring break is here and GA Milestone testing is next. Why wasn’t this testing completed before the break? No worries. I have some great ideas and suggestions on how to prepare for GA Milestone testing with your child.

Practice typing on the computer. Testing is going to be computer based. Make sure your child is familiar with typing. A great website to consider is Typingclub.com.

Create a quiet noise free study area. Kids need balanced time of play and study time. Supply It with paper, pens, highlighters, index cards folders, and a timer. Keep a chart to keep track of study time.

Read nightly. Reading everyday at a certain time builds stamina. Have your child sit and read for 40 minutes silently to him/herself everyday. Keep track of their reading time weekly. This is a great opportunity to reward your child for completing so many hours of reading.

Review grades/speak with teacher. Now is the time while on spring break to sit back and look at your child's grades to see where they need help. Plan a meeting with teacher to get suggestions and more information on specific areas of grade improvements.

Hire a tutor. Tutors are a great resource to have handy. Being a parent and taking care of the home is a lot. Call an expert and focus on supporting & creating a nurturing environment for your child during this testing time.

Praise your child. Focusing on what your CAN DO instead of what they are struggling with. Children thrive in positive emotional environments. Testing time is stressful for some children. Talk to your child to find out how he/she feel about testing. Why this test is important. Tell them how proud you are of them. On the last day of testing, reward them or go out to celebrate.

Plenty of rest & eat a hot breakfast. Be sure to stick to a bed time especially during testing time. There will be a lot of testing for several days back to back. Make sure your child has plenty of rest. A good healthy breakfast ( low in sugar) in the morning is so important! How can we expect success on an empty tummy? Get up 30 mins early during this test time to prepare a warm breakfast for your child. Set the tone for the day. You will be surprised how a warm tummy curves behavior in a school setting.
