Library System Renames Library to Honor Fallen Librarian

The Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System recently held a renaming ceremony for family and friends of Ms. Gladys S. Dennard, the South Fulton Library Branch Manager who was killed while on duty, at the South Fulton Library 15 years ago.  Community members gathered to celebrate the life and legacy of Ms. Gladys S. Dennard, before unveiling the official new name of the facility as the Gladys S. Dennard Library at South Fulton. During the ceremony, District 6 Commissioner Emma I. Darnell shared the importance of honoring Ms. Dennard’s legacy at this library, after such tragedy.  Dennard’s daughter Jessica spoke of her mother’s love for her community and the library, before sharing a poem she wrote for her mother. Also on hand to bring greetings were Union City Mayor Vince Williams, Fulton County Manager Dick Anderson, Library Director Dr. Gabriel Morley and Friends of South Fulton Library President, Keisha Sawyer. In all, nearly 100 people joined in the renaming ceremony.
