South Fulton Library Renovation Program

By Veronica Vante, DSF Publisher June 6, 2018

The Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System has announced the closing dates for two libraries included in the Library Renovation Program.

The East Point Library will be closed to the public as of Tuesday, June 5, 2018 and the Fairburn Library will be closed to the public as of Wednesday, June 13, 2018, to begin extensive renovation work, as part of the Library’s Capital Improvement Program, Phase II project.  East Point and Fairburn are part of Group 4 in the renovation plan; Group 1 libraries kicked off exterior renovations earlier this month.

BuildSmart/Tebarco has contracted with Fulton County to provide design, engineering and construction management services for the Group 4 renovation projects and Heery/Russell is the program management team.

“The closing of our East Point and Fairburn branches will kick off a two year effort to redesign and modernize 23 of the County’s 34 libraries. Upgrades will include items like new HVAC systems, roofing, upgraded technology, improved layouts, new shelving, study rooms, ADA accessible restrooms, and more,” said Dr. Gabriel Morley, Director of the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System. “While we know the closing will bring some inconvenience, the result will be well worth it.  We look forward to completing the renovations as quickly as possible and re-opening beautifully renovated libraries that can serve their communities more efficiently.”

Renovations are expected to take 6-9 months, depending on size and scope. During construction library service will be available at the following nearby locations:

East Point Library

·         Southeast Atlanta Library, 1463 Pryor Road, Atlanta 30315

·         Wolf Creek Library: 3100 Enon Road, Atlanta 30331

Fairburn Library

·         South Fulton Library, 4055 Flat Shoals Road, Union City 30291

·         Palmetto Library, 9111 Cascade Palmetto Hwy, Palmetto 30268
